a18nkd Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Hi all does any one have a mk1 gal where the rear wiper over travel's i.e wipes some of the paintwork too only about 20mm over the paintwork but still is this a joint that needs replaced or is it a switch that says how far the wiper travels its the start stop side that does it, as the other end of the wipe is about 10-15mm off edge of glass so that is ok any ideas would be great thanks Alan. sparky Paul Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) The wiper arm is located on splines on the shaft, it sounds like it's been off and refitted incorrectly. Remove the nut holding the wiper arm to the shaft, remove the wiper arm and reposition it. Edited October 9, 2013 by sparky Paul Quote
a18nkd Posted October 11, 2013 Author Report Posted October 11, 2013 cheers sparky but would that not make the wiper over travel on the opp side of the wipe, also just noticed today in the stationary position the wiper are can move about 30 - 40mm either way Quote
viperclive Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 Sounds to me like you need to remove inner plastic trim on door and investigate wiper linkage for worn components, thus causing over run on blades. Quote
a18nkd Posted October 12, 2013 Author Report Posted October 12, 2013 That is what I was thinking could be a nice job for a rainy day can you just buy the replacement linkages or do you have to buy the whole thing thanks again Quote
viperclive Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Not sure, maybe one of the other experts can help there? If not a visit to a breakers yard! Quote
SilverBeast Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Not particularly familiar with how it's mounted, but could the motor screws be loose and allowing the motor to move? Quote
