If you've got air have you one of those air saws, cos with car sat normal you should be able to saw under top hat n cut the damn thing off, or a hack saw!

Alternative is a 4½" angle grinder, you can cut the lip off the top cup with a slitting or cutting disk. The remaining bit will pass through the hole in the turret, and you can then tackle the nut on the bench.

You'll need new top mounts, but they have usually had it anyway.

A bit late but machine mart sell an impact driver that runs off the mains. You'd need an impact universal joint and sockets though. Has the nut rounded off, or is it the hex part thats rounded? You can put vice grips on the top of the strut to stop it turning if that helps. Note, clamp at the top end of the strut (i.e. the bit that doesn't travel into the shocker in normal use) if you need to use the shock again.
