Parking Sensor Problems

hi all, i've recently purchased a 2.8 v6 galaxy on a p reg. when selecting reverse gear the car does reverse but no lights and no sensor sounds. however if I hold and press gear lever in position the lights work and sensor makes beeping sounds! Can anyone advise on the cause and how to fix also the sensor beeps constant but doesn't increase when close to kerbs,walls etc. many thanks, Martin

Probably a faulty reversing switch - 

Would explain both sensors and light not turning on.

Not sure what you mean about the sensors - once continuous the note does not change - or do you mean theres no beep before the continuous note?

mine is the same It if I put it in reverse it makes a long beeps once and that's it... the button on the dash flashes... any ideas whats the prob ? its a 2001 1.9 tdi

could well be a sensor problem,if you do a search on here there is a lot of info about this subject.

thanks checked my sensors by putting the gear in reverse and putting m fingers upon the sensors... I could feel the sensors clicking and all working except for one of them... going to local scrappers on Monday will pick up a sensor and may be a wiring loom too.

Try swapping a "good" one with the "faulty" one.  That will tell you if its the sensor or the wiring.
