pozzu Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Hey guys, I have just spent 2 hours browsing this enlightening forum about the airbag light on my 2000 Galaxy Mk1, which came on whilst I was driving (coming off a round about to be precise). Seems like plenty of people have had the same issue (amazing the number of times the same problems keeps coming up over and over again!). Having read some threads, it sounds like the problem is most likely to be the clockspring/squib mechanism (an assumption, I haven't actually got it checked). Anyway, I was thinking of calling out airbagwarninglight.co.uk (aka: dashwarninglights.co.uk) to have a look. Has anyone used them before or can you recommend another service (in the London area)? Thanks in advance Poz Quote
gazmech Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 I got that. Had it on a computer and it has come up with B+ voltage low but alternator is kicking out 14.4v and is charging battery very nicely, I use the car every day so it's not like it is standing for months on end. If u do use them let me know how u get on pls. Quote
wetandwindy2 Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I've had my galaxy mk1 for about 6 years and the airbag light has been on the whole time and have had no problems Quote
viperclive Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Mines been on for a few years now, re-set but goes straight back on, going to have to bite the bullet and take steering wheel off and change clock spring. Taking safety factors seriously to stop the damn thing going off lol. Quote
BrianH Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I've had my galaxy mk1 for about 6 years and the airbag light has been on the whole time and have had no problems You will have on your next mot as its been an mot failure for about 6 months now to have it on (or not behaving correctly) whereas it wasn't before. on the original point if you can get hold of a vcds cable you have have a look at what code/error is being logged - theres 4 modules in total though its usually the drivers one that fails going by whats on here and thats usually the clockspring that causes it (it has to flex every time you turn the wheel so not surprising really, although galaxies appear particularly prone to it being a problem). Theres instructions on the clockspring replacement in the faq section. Quote
brett Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Hi i had a similar problem with the airbag light ,it turned out to to be showing a low battery fault ,fitted a new one cleared the fault code no problems since Quote
dgamble Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 I Had the same problem on my old Audi A4, probably the same VW part in the steering wheel. It either repaired itself after about a year or the warning light bulb blew! Quote
