Trislander Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Hi allMy X reg mkII galaxy 1.9 tdi has been sat idle for a few weeks but hopefully be back on the road on Friday. I've had a lot of work done drop links ball joints shocky mounts brakes discs and pads .....however when I drive on a road with either bumps pot holes or even an uneven lump in the road my steering shakes quite badly. Now I was told it was ball joints but obviously not so any advice please? Don't think it's wish bones as they were recently done. It has nothing to do with it being sat idle as it was doing it before I took it off the road. Any help appreciated Quote
GazzJ Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Does the steering wheel move when you go over a bump, if so it could be to do with the steering rack track rod ends, the rod between the tie rod and the steering rack. the other thing it could be is CV joints. Quote
Trislander Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Best way to describe it is shudders Sorry I know it's vague Quote
Trislander Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Been told it won't be steering rack and also had one if the track rod ends done can't remember which side though Quote
viperclive Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I had a similar problem, it turned out to be inner track rods, these are the rods that the track rod ends screw on to, they are easy to change and cost about £15 of Ebay each, an indication of the wear is that the rod should not flop up and down when disconnected, should be stiff.
