Guest Alpine Greg Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I'm thinking of heading off to see a 1999 2.3 Ghia. Having spoken to the guy he's been up frint enoght to tell me that the passenger air bag warning light stays on all the time. I guess this means there's a problem somewhere - but is it likely to be a biggie, (I guess I really mean expensive) or is it just a question of re-setting something??? Also - bit of a dunces question this, so go easy on me - am I right in thinking diesels have cam belts that need changing prior to snapping, but the petrol engines have timiing chains which may well lasy ages? I don't want to buy and then get hit with a big bill. Any advice appreciated. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 As far as I'm aware there is only one air bag warning light in the instrument display, the most common cause it seems for the warning light to be on is due to the clock spring failing! this is the piece of equipment that allows the drivers air bag to get its power while the steering wheel rotates, it as it name suggests a wound spring that can and does break due to the constant moving it does correct the 2.3 has a cam chain the TDI'S have a belt Quote
