Hi all

I've had a look on here first but cant seem to find my alarm module!!!

I've only had the car for about two weeks, she's a 1999 V reg 1.9TDI ghia X. The car came with two keys looks like the driver's lock has been changed as the key for that only opens that door.

I can lock the car using the key, the indicators flash and the red led on the driver's door also flash but it wont lock on the button on the keys. I have done what it says in the hand book to reprogram them, also went to my local ford dealer they tried it and nothing but the machanic told me it could be water thats got into it. I had a look but I cant see it under the passenger seat. There is a plastic surround under the seat runners with quite a large bit to the rear of the floor. Could it be under that?

As I've said I've looked on this site for info first, is their anyware else it can be?

I've also read about wires breaking in the gaitor between the doors/boot and car, i have found one wire broke going to the tailgate. (well only one thread holding on) with a few wires on the rear passenger door's aswel as the tailgate, reconected as such. Not a very good job done still some wire showing through the conector ends, will sort them out tommorow.

There's nothing under the passenger seat on your car, it has the later electrics similar to the mk.2. The windows/central locking/PATS modules are all integrated into the body control module (BeCM) which is part of the fusebox.

The remote programming procedure is number 7 in the FAQ list, it says it's for the Mk.2, but applies to your car too.

Also, if you suspect the key with the remote has been swapped, it must have been replaced with the correct type - there are a few different transmitter/reciever frequencies in use, and the key type must match the original supplied with the car.

I think one of the keys is original it has a black key hole shaped mark on and it opens the passenger door and tailgate, the second key only opens the drivers door and wont start the car.

i have copied the instructions on the link you gave me, I'll have a go at that tommorow.

Oh just thought I forgot to say that doing the procedure in the hand book, the LED on the driver's door wont flash but the LED on the key will flash. Would this make any differance?

gently take the key apart to see if you still have the pats chip in it?

I'm sure the door LED does something, but I can't remember what exactly.

It sounds like the key that opens thet tailgate/passenger door and starts the car is probably original as you say... the driver's door lock must have been changed, and the key for that lock won't do anything else.

The original remote key should code back to the car with the procedure in the FAQ.

Both keys have the pats chip, I believe, its the one on the key itself.

I think because it flashes when the car is locked its to show that the alarm is activated.

I way be wrong but thinking if the previous owner changed the driver's door barrel, they might have put the alarm part of the fob onto the new key. If I open the fob up is there any way of seeing if both PCB's are the same?

The manufacturer & frequency details are marked on the small label on the outside of the remote part of the key.

I would have thought any working remote would be on the key that starts the car, as you can then use it to unlock the doors too. If both of the remote labels have the same details, you should be able to add both to the system.

Been out yesterday to check in the door gaiters for broken wire's found a couple. thought I would reprograme the alarm as to sparky pauls post, still wouldn't code. is the alarm module easy to find as it isn't under the passenger seat, just thought id check see if its got s bad conection, if it hasn't got anything wrong think i might leave it and keep using the key's. wanted to give the wife the spare one.
