just got my Galaxy back from the LPG installers. Vapouriser and filler leak both fixed, but he mentioned that the infrequent misfires were due to my "coil packs" on their way out. When I asked him to explain (I know about a coil, leads and plugs but have never heard of a "coil pack"), he blinded me with stuff about my Galaxy having two coils ...

Anyway, Im still none the wiser and was hoping someone here would give me an idiots guide. Also any information on whether whatever it is is easy to replace for a beginner-intermediate like myself. No idea how much it would cost either ...

any information appreciated!!!

thanks

The 2.3 has two coil packs located under the black plastic cover on top of the engine, pop this cover off and there they are! the plug leads are held in place by little push tabs! squeeze the tabs and they should pop off the coil!

the plug end of the lead should be removed by the use of either the correct tool! or by pulling on the plug cap, NOT the lead!

the coil packs are held in place by two Torxs bolts at oposite corners of the pack, the coil packs are available at any Ford dealers, or possibly a VW dealers! are the coil packs the same as on the V6 or the 1.8T ? but be prepared to remorgage your house if your going to pay VW prices! :o

you could try eurocarparts OR gsfcarparts but check the part numbers/compatability first before you get the coil packs!

there are various types of coil packs and also a unit called a dis pack if you look at the posting v6 misfire you can see what the look like . the dis pack is short for distributor less ignition system the dis pack is triggered via the ecu and is an attempt to do away with a coil an ignition amplifier and a methord of knowing when to fire ie points. the individual coil over plug is just a variation on this and the system used on the 2.3 is 1 coil over with another plug lead on it, they normaly fire as required in each cylinder but the other plug that is not on its power stroke gets a spark as well helping to ignite any residual unburnt fuel in that cylinder causeing less polution. hope this make sense and not cofused you further :o
