sss Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Hi allIt's been 8 months since this site help me resolve a number of issues creating by a broken earth wire inside the boot gaitor. I've another fault which hopefully someone has come across before and has a fix for. My central locking has stopped working when using the key in the front doors and boot. Also noted that the front windows to not close / open when the key is kept turned.Plus Alarm light on drivers door does not flash. Thought this may have been linked to the wires in thenboot gaitor again. Found one Red and white wire snapped and reconnected this but still the above failing. Any thoughts anyone please. viperclive Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Afraid it sounds like door haters, same as the rear one wires broken, plenty on here to read about this common fault. Quote
sss Posted August 21, 2013 Author Report Posted August 21, 2013 Hi all Thanks for the replies. Got my Gaitors and Gaiters mixed up. Does anyone know which wire / s would create such a failing in the central locking. I can lock the passenger and rear doors by pushing in the inside door handles and the drivers door with the key but the boot will not lock so the car is a bit vunerble. Any help on the wiring colour and location would be really appreciated Paul Quote
gregers Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 just check all wires in the doors and the rear hatch. Quote
viperclive Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 If your problem is as bad as mine was once you look at the wires inside the rubber gaiter you will see the problem straight away, I ended up doing all four doors, cutting out wire where the insulation had perished and solder in new wire taken from inside pillars of another galaxy from Scrapyard, remembering to put two bits of heat shrink tubing on wire to cover up soldered connection. sss Posted August 22, 2013 Author Report Posted August 22, 2013 Thanks All In your experience would I be right to suggest I target the drivers door and the boot lid initially as these have the most use and wear or is it as likely the fault sits in the other 3 doors. I'm on holiday in west wales so have little scope for soldering etc plus would be a novice at this anyway. Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Boot lid most likely by some margin - then driver's door, then front passenger door. Quote
chromedome Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Also check the fuses. I think they are marked on the plastic fuse cover. it could be a failing wire has blown something. Quote
gregers Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 you can do a temp fix if you have enough wire length.even if its just twisted together and taped up just to get you going, but make sure you do a proper job when you have the chance. Quote
sss Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 Hi all Firstly thanks for the responses. I've checked the cabling and although there is some wear and tear I'm leaning towards the fuse or the control unit for the central locking. Having checked the handbook I'm confused on which fuse number would be linked to the central locking plus should it not be the fuse where the control unity is as it is not under the passenger seat. Hopefully you guys and gals could advise Much apprecated MK1 Zetec 2001X Reg1-9tdi Quote
BrianH Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Try fuse 19 - its not what the book with my petrol one says should have anything to do with it, but it does supply the power to my 2.0 petrol. Also supplies the dash battery power so if the mileage display disappears and the trip resets when you stop this would sound like the fuse. If it is blown there must be a cause of it somewhere, most likely a broken wire shorting out. Quote
sss Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 Hi - yes the mileage display does disappear and the trip resets. Will check this tomorrow. Fingers crossed it is the fuse Quote
sss Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Hi Moved around known working fuses to number 19 and 12 but sadly no success. Any idea where the control unit is please as it's not under the passenger seat? MK1 Zetec 2001X Reg1-9tdi Quote
