PhilH Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 I'm getting a second gear crunch on my gearbox. I only seem to get it going from first to second, going down from third to second is fine. If I go from first to second very slowly an gently I can avoid. Other gears seem fine. Do you think a gearbox oil change would fix this? I've found a couple of posts where uprading to a more expensive gearbox all has fixed some gear crunching. I seem to have found more poeple with 2nd to 3rd issues than 1st to 2nd though. Quote
gregers Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 quite possibly always worth doing the easiest and cheapest things 1st. Quote
SilverBeast Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 I also have a first to second crunch, but more so when cold. I have just changed the gearbox oil (though just with some from eBay) and it hasn't made a difference. I'm now down to trying to bleed the clutch, or replacing the intermediate drive shaft. Leaving it for now as I've lived with it for a couple of years, from when I bought it. It makes me drive in a less hurried fashion, which is no bad thing! Quote
PhilH Posted August 18, 2013 Author Report Posted August 18, 2013 It's funny you should mention the intermediate driveshaft as it seems to have started since changing that! Why would that cause a gear crunch? Quote
SilverBeast Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 I seem to recall reading that changing the intermediate dive shaft improved the gear change for a few people. Forgot to say the other thing I was going to try, but haven't got round to is adjusting the gear selector cables. This looks simple (and free!) Just a little awkward to access the cables at the gearbox end. Quote
