hi guys.  :) just wondering if anyone had any clue on how to get rid of the abs light on a mk1 galaxy 1.9 tdi. i have a vcd lite and a wire which i planned using to reset it but my car when to the garage for a replacement gearbox and they didnt know the light was on when it went in for repair so they tryed to reset the light but couldnt because there was no live to the diagnostic socket in the car. he said to check the fuses which i did and there dont appear to be any popped. any ideas guys? mot time soon and it will fail if this is on. cheers guys . B)

Hi. It depends on the problem with the abs i think. I have had leads fail on the front wheels before and when they were replaced the light went out on its own. I think if you have pump failure you will have to use vcds to set up the new pump but in your case if its not a lead then its worth trying to fix the diagnostic socket and checking the fault before going any further.

Yep, sensor problems reset above 20mph or so.

 

Favourite problem is the reluctor rings on the front driveshafts, although they sometimes damage the sensors when they split. Replacement rings are available cheaply on that well known auction place.

cheers paul. by reset do you mean that the abs light goes off above 20mph so the light dont have to be turned off by the diagnostic socket? the cars just had a new gearbox in it and the rings around the drive shafts seamed fine.

Sensor/ring faults are self resetting once the sensor/ring are fixed and the ABS sees a normal pulse train from all 4 wheels.
