calvinsnetwork Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Hello Everyone, Hope someone out there can help :) I have a Galaxy Ghia 2007 Model and recently while driving the clutch just stayed down.On releasing my foot the clutch just stayed there, and wouldn't budge (even tried lifting it with my leg)What's even worse this happened at a roundabout at the traffic lights so I practically was stuck as the car wouldn't move. The only solution I thought of then and there was to get out the car, lift the clutch pedal with my hands and it then came back up.A few moments later the whole thing happened again on a main road. After stopping it for a few minutes I managed to get back home safelywithout any issues. I have never had this issue before since I've owned the car and just wanted to find out if anyone knows what the issue could be?Is it something I can fix myself? or have to get a garage to fix it? I've never experienced this issue before and wondered if anyone can shed some light onwhere to go from here. I can confirm when we brought the car home, when the clutch was pressed all gears are freely moving, and when released it came back up.Is it safe to drive still? Many Thanks in Advance,Calvin Quote
skippythompson Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 I read this but saw that nobody posted any comments, so I am bringing this thread back to life as I now have the exact same problem! My new post... 2004 Galaxy Mk2 1.9 TDDI (130ps) Ghia ASZ1 - 139k Hi everyone, Does anyone know the cause of my clutch pedal suddenly staying down in an almost engaged position? (less than 2 inches from a fully engaged position) 1 - It first occurred after doing a 70 mile stretch of motorway . 2 - I then tried to dip the clutch pedal but it was resting in a position unusually low down to the floor. 3 - I figured out that I could use my foot to manually lift the pedal back up to the normal position but the problem keeps happening quite frequently. ??? :5: Initially, I thought it was probably due to a seized clutch cable but i see that the clutch pedal directly operates a push-rod mechanism onto what I think is the master cylinder, so no 'old fashioned' clutch cables to be seen anywhere !! Any input would be GREATLY appreciated - thanks!! Peace and love, peace and love. Quote
calvinsnetwork Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 Hi skippythomson, Just received your PM and replying to your query :)Basically the problem that I had was really serious in the end. The first diagnosis at Ford:They said there was air in the clutch fluid, they said that's what caused the pedal to go down. That was fixed and a week later, the same thing occurred. The second diagnosis at Ford:They said there was a problem more than likely with the master/slave clutch cylinder. That got replaced and ruled out any LEAKS (this they said is the most common type of problem if the clutch goes down)After a few weeks, same problem again! - Unlucky for me. The third diagnosis at Ford:They said they needed to replace the whole clutch system and on top of that, found a fault with the flywheel. They had to replace that at the clutch system. Touchwood that has solved the problem so far :) Total cost to me : Quote
skippythompson Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks Calvinsnetwork, Your comments have been extremely helpful, I'm going to have a closer look for fluid leaks now. I haven't used the car since the trouble, I just parked it on the driveway until such times as I am clued up on the best route for diagnostic/repair as I have been ripped off by garages in the past, guessing wrongly about what needs to be replaced, until the point where they have replaced just about EVERYTHING!! (a previous car not this one). Thanks again. Quote
