Bigjeeze Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 I replaced my clutch slave about 5ooo miles ago. Last night I lost gears except for 5th & 6th. Got it home and I found that one of the selector cables had popped out of it's bracket - Replaced it and I have all gears except reverse. I am assuming I have changed an adjustment or similar - but can't work out how to sort it Any ideas please? Quote
nicebutdim Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 I'm not sure if they are similar but I know the only adjustment of the selector mechanism is at the gear stick end on my mk1. You have to remove all of the centre console and the cables are underneath. As I said, I'm unsure if the mk2 has the same system. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted July 8, 2013 Author Report Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks for that. No it's not the same on the Mk2 - I have now fixed it with some help from Mirez. Basically it was an adjustment on the cable that you do from the gearbox end. There was a video on you tube which shows you how to do it. It is really simple. (once someone tells you how!) Quote
gregers Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 ah ha a name from the past, hasnt been on here for ages hows he doing ;) ;) :D glad its sorted buddy. Quote

(once someone tells you how!)Hi bigjeeze, I'm having the same problem with my mk2 Gal, 1.9tdi Auto 2005, could you please shed some more light on this " adjustment on the cable and a link to youtube would be most welcome as me Auto garage mechanics are abit baffled with no reverse problem...Many thanx! traff Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) i did this once....remove both cables from the gearbox ....select reverse gear with the stick...then on the gearbox selecter... push down then clock wise...this puts the gearbox into reverse then reconnect the cables....that worked for me.......oops just re read ....this works for the manuel gearbox ...never had to do an auto ..sorry Edited March 10, 2014 by traff Quote
insanitybeard Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Hi bigjeeze, I'm having the same problem with my mk2 Gal, 1.9tdi Auto 2005, could you please shed some more light on this " adjustment on the cable and a link to youtube would be most welcome as me Auto garage mechanics are abit baffled with no reverse problem...Many thanx! The cable adjustment they are referring to is for the manual boxes where the cables directly operate the gear selectors, it's not the same with an auto box, there is a cable of sorts but most of the actuation in the auto box is done via solenoids and hydraulics. There is a separate control module for the automatic transmission, are you able to check to see if it has stored any fault codes? Quote
traff Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 ok maybe a senior moment ..sorry...i agree the above statment.....for your info ...look at ebay..type in galaxy autobox......there is a company that repairs the missing revese gear....they say its not uncommon......worth a look ..hope this will help Quote
cheekyyumyum Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Many thanx guys for your valuable input! Ran a diagnostic on it but only fault that came up on the TRANSMISSION Module was code "65535 " Internal Control Module error , no power to KAM, keep alive memory! Does this ring any bells ??? The auto mechanic thinks changing the 9 solenoids in the auto box might help? ( ita a 5 speed JATCO apparently ) Any ideas greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Quote
SilverBeast Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Sounds more like wiring (or possibly a fuse) to me. Probably a permanent live (or the ground) to the control module itself, as that is where I would expect the memory to be situated, rather than in the gearbox itself. This from an electronics background rather than from knowledge of automatic gearboxes. Quote
