astevens4 Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 im stumped! ive got none of the above working - read lots of stuff, and replaced the interior fuse box to no avail - the fuse box connected near the battery has no blown fuses (although theres previously been a big short judging by the damage to the box, but repaired apparently since. Any ideas?? Quote
seatkid Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 The "big short" is overheating due to a faulty crimp on the big alternator cable. Very common problem and usually requires a new fuse box (quite cheap from dealers) and a new alternator lead or the crimp needs to be soldered up. As for your fault, give us a clue as to you car/year/engine/variant and someone might tell you which fuse to start looking at Quote
astevens4 Posted June 17, 2013 Author Report Posted June 17, 2013 the alternator lead has been replaced with a nice shiny new one - but theyve left the old box on - its an 01 plate ghia 2.3 Quote
