Guest Dansik Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Hi again, I have a 1.9TDI with 85,000 on the clock. The Aux drive belt has become very noisy, as if it was slipping. I put on a new one and that was better but still sounds like it is slipping when turning the steering wheel. If I put on the air-con it gets even worse. It ticks over a little under 1,000 revs but if I raise that to just over 1,000 revs by holding it on the accelerator pedal the problem disapeers. It has an automatic spring loaded tensioner and I was wondering if they ever need to be changed ? If not perhaps the problem lies in the pump itself which I guess would be real expensive. Any ideas welcome. Dansik Quote
charles Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 have the same problem for a year but it is not worsening, so I leave it. I suspect the bearing of the tensioner or the guiding roller, but it also could be the bearing of the waterpump. Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I had the same problem with mine at 140k miles and the tensioner shaft had worn into the cast casing, the olny solution was to change the whole casting. Not much of a job just meant removing all the ancillaries and fitting a new casting. The noise started at about 100k miles and 40k later was unbearable. Quote
Guest Dansik Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Thanks for the info, I might remove the tensioner and take a close look at it. Quote
