Abraham Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 Hi Folks,I have just bought a 2006 Galaxy and tried to download the manual, but giving both year, model and when that failed the pin, according to them no manual to match this info. What I wanted to know was what batteries for the ignition keys, as there were non inside. The back doors will not open from inside, I tried the normal lock device on the front door, works everything but still cant open the doors from the inside, is there another button somewhere?Car Radio, tells me to enter code, I look in the radio manual but it says no code, tried 0000,1234,just 5 altogether had 5 goes, I think you are allowed 10 goes before the end of the world, so dont want to risk guessing anymore.,Any answers will be gratefuly received.Regards,Abraham. Steve_Mk1_2.3A Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 Hi, Ford dealer for the key batteries they are dead cheap. They can order you a manual by the VIN or REG. The back doors have the child locks on - look at the door latch when open - you'll see a little lever - move it to the other place it goes and the doors will work fine. The radio code a dealer or some 3rd party places can get for you from the radio sticker or in some cases the VIN. HTH Steve Quote
Abraham Posted May 20, 2013 Author Report Posted May 20, 2013 Thanks, I will go to the Ford dealer for the batteries.Aha now I know what you mean about the locks I will do that tomorrow. While I am at the Ford dealers I will show him the radio booklet where it has a space for the code, but in it is written no code or what looks like it.Thank you for your time, I am pleased with the car, especialy as the Garage did everything that needed doing before they would let me have it.Regards,Abraham. Once you have fitted new batteries you will need to programming it to your car again. If you change the batteries yourself do it in the middle of a big clear table and make sure you don't lose the small black PATS chip or the immobiliser will stop you from starting the car (apart from for a few seconds). Search the forum for PATS if you are unclear and there are pictures of the key and chip. Quote
seatkid Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Check the service manual at the front for the 4 digit code - IIRC there is a place to stick the sticker there. Mine is stuck on the flap inside the glovebox - the salesman told me he always does that as the service manual can go astray. I think if you try too many times all that happens is the radio will lock out for about an hour befoer you can try again (not sure though). If you remove the radio and get the serial no. I believe members here have provided a PIN from some magical source. Quote
Abraham Posted May 21, 2013 Author Report Posted May 21, 2013 Thanks I looked in the glovebox and found it earlier and emailed silverbeast but the message didn`t show on this page, I have also found the childs lock switches in the doors, I still cant download the manual even with year 2006 make Galaxy that didn`t work so I tried pin also no go. Next thing is try to sort out a key, cost £135 plus having it coded or whatever they do, I thought a bit pricey.the only key I got, didn`t have batteries so once they are fitted I might go for just a plain key, but would that start the engine?Anyway thanks for your kind reply,Regards,Abraham Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Sorry, I didn't get an email or Private Message. I'm assuming that you have a MKII Galaxy. I'm not sure you can download the manual from the ford site. A 2006 can be a MKII or a MKIII. Here is a link to the Seat Alhambra Manual which will have a lot of similarities as it's basically the same car. Programming of keys however is different. Batteries in the keys have nothing to do with starting the car, they are only used for the Central Locking, which also turns on/off the alarm (if I'm wrong seatkid will correct me!). A remote key can be programmed to lock/unlock the car yourself. Instructions are in the manual. Once you replace the batteries in yours you can program itself, the instructions are in the manual, and on this site. I've just changed them on my 2005 and I'm pretty sure you need 2 x CR2016's. First check once fitted will be does the red key LED come on when you press the button. To start the car you need a key with the aforementioned Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) chip in it. Again you can program this yourself - but only if you already have two keys. I believe it is also possible to program the key to the PATS keys using VAG-COM/VCDS-LITE but I understand you need a Vehicle PIN to do this, that may only be available to the dealers. The other option (again gleaned from this site) is that some key cutters can "clone" the PATS chip from your existing key. Good Luck. Quote
Abraham Posted May 22, 2013 Author Report Posted May 22, 2013 I know now why you didnt get my email, as I have just done it again. After writing my answers in great detail I went onto the link you kindly gave and downloaded the manual, I then went back to finish the email to you and guess what, I`d lost it. Oh well here I go again.I got the batteries and they flash up so thats ok. The lady at Ford said it would cost £65 to program it and I would need two keys. I came home and looked up on how to program but didn`t have much luck, something worked as I pressed the unlock three times the front windows went up, gave me a laugh if nothing else. I have the pin, I got that off the dealer so I could download the manual but it wouldn`t exept 2006 and Galaxy or the pin, so your link is hopefuly a blessing. What is VAG-COM/VCDS-LITE?Another thing I was going to try is getting touch with a mobile locksmith and asking if he could help. So I will have a good go tomorrow, I have patience so will succeed or not.Thank you verry much for your time and trouble, I think this is all part of knowing my Gal.Take care,Abraham. Quote
BrianH Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 You might be able to sort your radio code with some luck, Given the age of the car theres a good chance someone has had to enter it before if the battery has been removed for any reason. The usual place if the card with the code can't be found and someone has had to look it up before is to check the serial number sticker. If someone has looked it up previously then it may be written there..... if not then at least you have the serial number which you will need to find the code anyway. There is/was a program available from various sources a while back which would tell you the code from the serial number. Quote
Abraham Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Thanks Brian, yes I did that and luckily found the code, now I can listen to some music. Silver beast sent me a link for the Alambra, wich is more of less the same as the as the Galaxy and this seems to tell all I need to know. The only problem I have now is I only got one key with the car, this opens the doors, alarm and ignition, so I am ok for starting it etc, but It didn`t have batteries, now I have put the batteries in I cant program it, and the MD said I need another working key to be able to program it. I will figure a way around it somhow though. Thanks for your kind help,Regards,Abraham. Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Hi Abraham Follow this link to a new topic I've just created containing the pictures of the Manual pages to do with the Central Locking, Immobiliser and Key Programming. Quote
Abraham Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Brilliant, the only thing I am worried about is I have only one key, and I am worried if I get it wrong I might not be able to start the car, I dont know whether to risk it or not. Thanks for all the time you have devoted to this problem, I realy am grateful. I wondered about only having one key, but but being of the older generation I just thought I would get more cut. Thanks again, you have been a great help.Regards,Abraham. Quote
gregers Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 getting a new blank cut shouldnt be a problem, you can buy a remote (as long as you have the correct frequency)and program this to the central locking.the problem you will have is getting it PROGRAMMED to the pats system which is either a dealer visit or a good auto locksmiths. Abraham Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Hi GregersI will have a chat with a mobile locksmith to see what he can do, I only have the one key and thats not coded, but it locks and unlocks does the alarm and of course starts the car. I have spoken to a locksmith and the the ford dealers, but they were not helpful, they didn`t seem to know what they were talking about, they seemed to just suggest things that might or might not work, confused me realy. I am going to see a locksmith tomorrow, the best I have been offered so far is having a key made and coded to the car so it would start.I only got one key with the car and it didn`t have any batteries in it so though it would start the car it couldn`t work on remote. Thanks for your help,Regards,Abraham. I the car and it didn`t have any batteries in it. Thanks for your help,Regards,Abraham. Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) You are talking about two systems. 1. The alarm and central locking. This uses the batteries in the keys for the remote side of it. If you follow the instructions in the manual pages for adding your existing key for that you can't do any harm as you don't have a key that works anyway. These are the instructions that turn the key in the drivers door lock three times then pushing the buttons on the remote. If your window all come down you have held the key in the unlocked position two long. The worst that can happen with this is the remote won't unlock the car because it's faulty. Follow the instructions carefully and try again if it doesn't work. I had to do mine when I changed the batteries in one of my keys and it took me more than one go as I kept turning the key the wrong way. It can't stop the key from starting the car. If you get a second remote key later you will have to do this again as you are clearing all keys from the system then adding them again. 2.The immobiliser. This is also called the Passive Anti Theft System (PATS). This uses a coil in the steering column around the ignition switch to "talk" to a device in the key (the "PATS" chip). This chip is separate from the PCB the batteries go into and can easily fall out and be lost if the key comes apart or when the batteries are changed. There are pictures of the chip on the Forum but it looks like a small rectangular block of plastic. If you changed your batteries and the car still starts and runs fine then your key still has it fitted. You don't need to do anything about coding this again if yet as it won't be affected by changing the batteries. There are four options when adding another key to the PATS system. a) If you have 2 existing keys (as long as they are not clones) you can do it yourself using the instructions in the manual pages. b) The key can be added to the system by a Ford dealer who knows what they are doing and probably wants an arm and a leg. c) You can use software yourself. I believe VAG-COM or VCDS-LITE can do it but you may need a vehicle PIN number to do it. I've not done it myself. d) Finally and probably the best option for you is if you can find a key cutter who can "clone" the existing PATS chip on your key and effectively copy it onto another chip. They basically read it from your key and put it onto another. It would probably be best if you bought the key from them and had then copy it. You could have a remote or none remote key done as a spare as it would still do the alarm and locks as now. Edited May 25, 2013 by SilverBeast Quote
