OrpingtonAlex Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 Hi Have a problem with my '04 MK2 115 Galaxy that I've spent a lot of time and money trying to fix and still no resolution. Found this forum brilliant help with possible causes but having dealt with the main culprits wanted to ask if anyone had new ideas/advice. The car had wheel wobble and what felt like backlash from the drive shafts. I've had the intermediate/input and outer shafts replaced, correct new tyres and the wheels swapped around, the wheel bearings checked, the passenger side strut replaced and new drop links. The intermediate was on it's way out and swapping has led to an improvement. But still have the wobble when pulling off and a backlash/surging that is getting more pronounced. This happens between 15-20 mph but not all the time. It's more apparent when pulling away from a corner. The gears are also chipping. Should also say that the steering wheel is sitting off center although the car does drive straight. There's no knocking when cornering. Because the shafts have been done (and I assume properly) I was wondering if it's the drivers strut, wishbone or part of the suspension moving and fighting against the drive shaft? They seem OK on inspection. Really grateful for any thoughts on how best to progress with this. Thanks Quote
viperclive Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Try this, with the car sat normal, arm yourself with a large screwdriver or prise bar, prise the rear of wish none against chassis to check the state of rear bush, the bush may look good but a good yank may show movement, if they have gone you you can get what feels like transmission backlash, if the rubber bush has gone completely you can get a knocking noise under the footwell. Also don't forget inner trackrods as they can cause brake wobble real bad! Quote
