SONYPS23 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Battery pretty much fully charged now, everything tightened, but still having to rev the engine to get rid of the battery warning and then still get the error message. New fuse box now? Quote
bigdave982 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Id get the battery checked and alternator charging check if not done aleady Quote
chromedome Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) What type of battery has been fitted? Should be a nickel calcium. Edited April 4, 2015 by chromedome Quote
chromedome Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Sorry calcium battery. Not lead acid. Quote
SONYPS23 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 Battery is Sealed Calcium, had it twos years yesterday! I'll get it checked. Alternator charging but I have to rev the engine to get it started. Quote
BrianH Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 Is there a clutch on the pully on the alternator and does it work? Quote
SONYPS23 Posted April 11, 2015 Author Report Posted April 11, 2015 Sorry but I haven't got a clue. Quote
BrianH Posted April 11, 2015 Report Posted April 11, 2015 Does it still have the pulley from the original alternator or was one supplied with it? Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I've just picked this up - don't get out much these days. Methinks you've been going round in circles. If it was mine I'd try to measure the output of the alternator but it is likely to be ok anyway. Going on I think it is likely to be a sticking relay somewhere but I don't have the old Gal or easy access to any service information now. Forlorn hope, it might be worth connecting the meter to the battery so that you have your hands free and try giving the fusebox a wee tap. on the MKI there is a panel with a load of relays carefully hidden 3 layers deep behind the fuse panel by your right knee. I should have thought someone out there with more hands on should have been able to help by now but they've all probably either retired or just given up an Galaxys. Quote
SONYPS23 Posted July 3, 2015 Author Report Posted July 3, 2015 Ok thanks will try the relay thing, changed the junction box but still the same, battery has died on me twice now! Quote
Dondrup Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 I have a problem with the carbattery (new one). It's ok for 1,5 week. So i checked the fuse box and i found this(see pic)Should i repace just the cables and fuse or the full box? Thanks! Quote
SilverBeast Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 Common fault. Replace fuse box. You probably need to replace alternator cable (top one) you may get away with cutting back cable and using a butt joint and suitable welding cable (150A minimum). Whatever you do solder the cable onto the contract on the end, the fault is caused by poor crimps. I wrote a post on the FAQs on fordmpv.com when I replaced mine Quote
SilverBeast Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 Repair instructions I did for mine here. I was fortunate enough not to need to repair my cables as I replaced the cable to the alternator when I replaced the fuse box. Quote
SONYPS23 Posted December 30, 2015 Author Report Posted December 30, 2015 Now fixed!! Car broke down just before Xmas and AA man said it was a dodgy alternator, which I thought was strange as it was new two years ago. Anyway started to look online for new one, saw cheap brand new ones called RTX so checked them out but soon found out they are cheap for a reason, anyway found a recon one on eBay for £80 and it works perfectly, and guess what make my old one was...yes an RTX one!! So don't buy RTX alterators! Quote
BrianH Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 I discovered the same thing after buying one of their starters. It's been fine but it's noticably smaller than the one it replaced. Do wonder how long it will last though Quote
Clint Posted May 8, 2016 Report Posted May 8, 2016 Auxiliary waterpump behind the battery. £35 on ebay. Filthy part cost me a new alternator and tensioner before I got onto it. Warning made me think I'll cutout and stall. Quote
