Argrdnr Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Got a new fuel filter, do I need any special tool to hold/clamp the fuel lines? Thanks Quote
daddyfixit Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 no, but they can be a pain to open----use long-nosed mole grips to squeeze them open. be careful of dropping the "mickey mouse ears" clip that holds the plastic tee-piece in the top of the filter---or you will lose it in the undertray. after changing filter, put ignition on/off about half a dozen times for about 10 seconds so the intank pump will prime the filter don't be tempted to press the accelerator when trying to start it----let it start and auto-bleed itself Quote
Argrdnr Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 Next question, where exactly is the filter? I thought it was near the near of the mk1. But guessing its at the front, wouldn't it be easier to remove the undertray? Quote
seatkid Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) I think daddyfixit is refering to his Mk2 Diesel - not the same as Argrdnr has a 2.0L petrol. The petrol fuel filter is mounted under the car inline with the petrol supply line somewhere in front of the fuel tank in a cradle. see here... Fuel System Pressure Release (234200) 1. The fuel pressure must be released before attempting any repairs. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. Remove the fuel pump fuse.2. Argrdnr Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 Attempting fuel filter change, wish me luck :)) Quote
Argrdnr Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 The bolt to undo the housing seems to be seized and the hoses coming from the filter seem larger than the actual filter nozzle. Any ideas people? Quote
