Pepper Red Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Hi all,Just finished changing front and rear pads and discs on my Mk 2 and I thought I would let you know that the front Caliper carrier bolts are 27mm but the back one's are 18mm not 19mm like a lot of people have mentioned in the past.!All went pretty well apart from the back ones that were really covered in crud, but after a good clean with WD and brake cleaner and the proper winding tool I managed to get them done with the hepl of a really patient mate.!But,and theres allways a but,I noticied that the rear offside brake was not holding much on the hand brake,it's fine on the brake pedal but something's not right and when applying the hand brake you can see the cable move but not much.We think it's either the cable seized or the bit where the cable is connected to the caliper.Any one had the same problem and can the caliper be serviced to remedy this.? Thanks in the meantime Quote
bigdave982 Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Id be disconnecting the cable first to see if it moves freely,if it dont change that first cheapest and easiest option, dont even have to take the wheel off ! Quote

xavier Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 I've had a siezed handbrake mech recently, so I'd suggest you oil the handbrake mechanism (I used 3 in 1) on the caliper and see if that helps. Quote

viperclive Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Hi I had same problem and it turned out to be inner cable that had rusted and jammed up, this also put rear brakes on causing the disc to glow red! Quote
