hi guys.  :) ive got a mk1 1.9 tdi galaxy with a few fuses missing out the fuse box. i was just wondering if these are suppose to be missing or have they been removed to hide faults on the car.current faults on the car is no heater and intermittent central locking.cheers guys :)

Yes there are a few fuses missing, usually those associated with different engines (e.g. no fuel pump fuse on a Mk1 Tdi) or missing/ not fitted options.

Heres a picture of my 98-99 Mk1 fuse box - you can see some fuses missing....

Intermittent c/l is usual before total failure, sometimes weak battery in keyfob, more often final step before keyfob remote failure (common fault) - if you do change the 2 batteries in the keyfob, take care not to lose the little cuboid that sits in the key head - this is the PATS transponder - if often drops out when opening the key - you wont be able to start the car without it (immobiliser)

No heater? Be more specific with the description of the fault......

cheers for the piccy seatkid. :) it looks like the same amount of fuses are missing  in yours too.im guessing that everything works on your car as it should? reason i asked about the fuses is because the car had a few faults with it when i bought it and thought fuses had been removed.the central locking was totally dead...........fob didn't work and still don't now.the power to the drivers door for the locking was dead but everything else in the door works. windows/mirrors.the heater has never worked on any of the heater settings and the display flashed on turning the ignition on.a fault from what ive read online. ive tryed the fuses.tested the motor. changed the hedgehog{resistor pack} and it still aint working. ran out of ideas. been searching online and on here  but still aint come up with a solution yet.

Check the wiring in all the rubber gaitors to the doors - see tech faq - common for wires to break here.

Do you have climate control (LCD panel and push buttons) or manual heater (knob controlled)? When you say the heater doesnt work do you mean the fan doesnt work or is the lack of hot air as opposed to cold air?

ive checked the wiring in the rubber gaitors. non appear to be broke but i cant undo the wiring from the door jamb  on two of the doors which makes me think maybe water has got to the connectors and corroded the connectors making the voltage work when it feels like it.the central locking is currently working at the minute............ wired in a universal remote locking unit today so got remote locking. just a little concerned that if the power goes to the door again the remote locking will pack up too. yes it has the lcd display with the buttons and the fan don't get power to it so it wont work.ive also bought a cable to delete logged faults with my laptop but i havent plugged it in yet to do it. might work if i get the display to stop flashing when the ignition is turned on?
