Heater Matrix Leak

I'm in need of a repair to my heater matrix (the one behind the dashboard), it has started to dribble coolant and there is a leak from the matrix - I checked the connections. Can someone advise me on the worth of the additives that can be added (Radweld type things??) and which brand is best, Ta.

Its a big job to change the matrix! total dash out, half the engine bay, wiper mech, lower screen trim............ two/three days if you go at your self and it all comes out and goes back in ok!

had mine replace a couple of months ago, it was slowly leaking, smelt like a curry had been spilt in the car :( gradually lost its heat output! so no amount of sealers would have saved it :( it had split on the seam on the main body of the matrix where the hose connectors are, I would imagine that this is a point on it that suffers from stress from the hoses pulling on it?

short term fix only i'm afraid wurth make a fantastic sealer but a tad expensive at

I used to work on single seater racing cars. The engine we were using was the old ford kent 1.6, but the stat was removed and a header pipe fitted straight to the stat fittings on the head.

 

We were in the paddock with five minutes before getting out onto the grid, when we noticed the gasket at the bottom of the header pipe was spraying.

 

Not enough time to remove the pipe and gunk it up with hylomar blue, although we may have had time, sods law says the studs would have sheared in the head.

 

Run into the paddock canteen, scream for two raw eggs, crack them into the header and rev the engine a bit, we finished third :(

 

Another time with a kent engine, a holed rad meant the engine ran too hot, you can't trust the driver to keep an eye on the guages, when we ran it next, it was down on top end power, stripped the block down and the rings were so soft you could tie knots in them!

 

Running a vauxhall engine in Belguim, the driver comes on the radio and says his digital dash is saying 130 degrees. We tell him the dash is crap and he should keep going. He later appears rolling down the pit lane with flames coming out the back - whoops. The only time that dash told the truth.
