Meanie Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 The handbrake on my Galaxy is not engaging and will just go up and down. I took the centre console out and noticed that the small spring mechanism on the ratchet has snapped so will not push the locking mechanism against the teeth. Does anybody know if this is a quick fix and is there a part available or do I have to buy a new handbrake? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Quote
Meanie Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Took it to main dealer today and they confirmed that the spring has broke. This spring would cost approx. 15-20p but in typical modern day car I have to buy the whole handbrake unit at a grand total of £309.00 including fitting. :28: Quote
Meanie Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 Took the car to an engineering company, who made a spring. £30.00 later and the car has a working handbrake! Quote
junky Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Interesting, wonder how much it would have been to have a few made at the same time. This is going to be a common problem in a few years, no doubt many people will be after these! Quote
Meanie Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 Maybe should get a few made up and sold on eBay. Also they have made it a stronger spring as the previous one is the same thickness as a staple!!!! Quote
