The handbrake on my Galaxy is not engaging and will just go up and down.  I took the centre console out and noticed that the small spring mechanism on the ratchet has snapped so will not push the locking mechanism against the teeth.  Does anybody know if this is a quick fix and is there a part available or do I have to buy a new handbrake?  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Took it to main dealer today and they confirmed that the spring has broke.  This spring would cost approx. 15-20p but in typical modern day car I have to buy the whole handbrake unit at a grand total of £309.00 including fitting.   :28:

Interesting, wonder how much it would have been to have a few made at the same time. This is going to be a common problem in a few years, no doubt many people will be after these!

Maybe should get a few made up and sold on eBay. Also they have made it a stronger spring as the previous one is the same thickness as a staple!!!!
