Hi all,

Looking for some advice.

Ford Galaxy 2.3 Zetec, year 1999.

Started fine yesterday, travelled around 15 miles.

Pulled over, switched off. Out of car 5 mins.

Back in turning but not firing.

Immobiliser has been known to throw wobble at times, so locked car up again etc, still the same.

Seemed out of fuel, but 4 gallon in the tank.

Waited for a reputable passer by. Asked passer by crank on the key whilst I lay under to hit the tank.

Car fired up, injectors popping, suspect air, as was cranking without fuel drawing?

All fine after stoping again.

This morning, same thing, car started in same way. Did a long journey, using up most of the tank, filled at a different garage,j thinking may have been dodgy fuel.

Same again after stopping, now with the new fuel drawing through.

So, fuel pump?

If so, I have been looking on EBay for a pump, but there seem to be a few!

How do I know which is the correct one?

How easy a job to drop the tank a d replace?

Any tips?

Appreciated.

All the best, Mark

Check Relays 30 and 167 first, the fuel pump relay, which is a very common fault.

Its in the FAQs i.e. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8810-relay-30-replacement/&do=findComment&comment=68423

Also check fuse 14, I think, which is the fuel pump fuse.

Could also be immobiliser problem - use the spare key.

Cheers mate, Banging the tank starts her though? I'm not a tech, Where are the relays and how to test? Cheers, Mark

Try the link in my previous reply......

IIRC to change the fuel pump, remove the centre/rear seats and lift up the carpet - there is an removeable access panel there.
