hi where can i get a gearbox from for a 99 v reg 1900 tdi galaxy tried ALL local scrap yards and on flea bay, tried every thing going and i need one asap not wanting to spend hundreds on a box as the car is only worth a few hundred. i need the car as i have 3 toddlers and a 9 week old baby so as u can understand how despirate i am to get it back on the road it has already been off the road for 4 days.

2 things...

 

1st you should consider buying an engine and tranny together as scrappies seem to prefer that. - obv you should look across the tdi range and across the shalaxybra models

 

2nd have you tried findapart - there are a couple of those type of scrappy brokers who send your requirement to millions of scrappies (lol ok maybe hundreds) and then the scrappy will call you...

found out the problem it's not the tranny its the drivers driveshaft. Took tranny to a gearbox specialist with the drivershaft(thats what he asked for) and he told me its not the gearbox but the drive shaft and he showed me that he could move the two parts of the shaft seperately and said that it should not do that. So thats the problem found out and is being rectified on monday along with a new clutch to save  changing the clutch at a later date. price for a new shaft including the dredded call it £85 with surcharge. Thanks to all who looked at the post and to Those who replied.

We have a very good breakers yard here in Hampshire called silverlakes, they have a Web page, the poshest yard I've ever been in!
