Hi All,

After trolling round the site for a couple of hours I am super impressed at the help and advice that is on this forum. I have a couple of problems I would like help with please.

I have a v reg ford galaxy 2.3 105k miles and love it.

My first problem is today the car would not start and the immobilser light is flashing when you turn the key, from looking around the site I found out this is a problem lots of people have had but on openeing my key there is no chip yet it has worked for the last 2 years. Does that mean my key is one of the types without the fall out chip?

If so can I just reprogram the key and it will work or replace the battery? If it helps the car starts with the spare flat key no problem but this leads to my second problem.

My second problem came about when I could not find my key fob (before the above incident) and I unlocked the car from the passenger side with the spare key the entire lock just fell out when I pulled the key out. Are these easy enough to replace or is it expensive and worth leaving?

Third problem has to do with 2 other doors on the car, the passenger door behind the driver stopped locking and is always unlocked(I should be happy its jammed unlocked). Any ideas on how to fix this?

The other lock is the boot lock it is always locked and only unlocks with the key. Unfortunetly the car is getting on a bit but I can't replace it until next year so would love to deal with these little problems now and run it for another year.

Any help is greatly appreciated and welcomed. If I have missed out any information that you may need to help just ask and I will try and proved it.

Thanks for reading and helping if you can.

Your problem with the rear door is the wiring in the rubber gator right hand side, mine was the same as yours and put up with it for years, until I joined this forum, you will find plenty of ways to repair on here.

Looking at my key the chip isn't in the removable bit but mine doesn't have remote locking so yours may be different. Only thing i can suggest is trying someone who cuts keys to see if they can reprogram it (the battery won't help its for the remote locking or light

if you still have the lock barrel its relatively easy to fix with a lock repair kit. if you don't have it then it would mean you'd end up with another key for that lock. Have a look on ebay for lock repair kit for an idea of what your looking at (there is 2 types of lock so you may need to take the handle off to see what to do). Its a generally poor bit of design from what I've seen of it and very prone to failing. lock repair key was about £20-25 last time i got one. Not sure how much they would be from Ford but i'd guess more. Lock assembly wasn't available from Ford either when i tried to get one to replace the missing one on mine so that would probabbly be an ebay job.

Boot lock and rear door I'd be looking at the gaiter wiring on each of them for those problems. the rear door particually if opened wide does seem on mine to put a lot of strain on the cables. Boot lock problems are common and seem to come back to the wires generally.

Thanks very much all, I will have a look at the wiring and the lock repair kit. I will check with a locksmith about the key. For now it seems happy to start on the flat key.

If I use the flat key for a while does that cause any problems or will it just keep starting with the flat key until I have the other one fixed.

I cant see how using a key manually that has a flat battery will have any negative effect except for the microscopic wear and tear on the lock... - assuming I understood you right.

Also the other query you have about the "chip", are you referring to the transponder chip ? if so then you definitely have one... its a little black cuboid - and on the mk1 ford key its not particularly well located... it just sort of hangs around by being a little bit sticky and loosely situated between the plastic blade housing and the back end of the key (which on a remote would house the blipping mechanism - and on a non-remote would be pretty similar just without the mechanism/board/batter/button)

Again - apologies if I have misunderstood

Would be true if the locks on the galaxy were better designed so they don't break so easily. That paddle on the back doesn't seem to cope too well with any sort of resistance from the catch unfortunately. I think by flat he means the plain non-remote key rather than one with a flat battery but the same applies either way.
