smudger Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 I think it is probably required for HSE reasons as they are classified as explosive devices and would otherwise have to be stored in an approved safe area. You are right that smudger wouldnt get his oil light frigged airbag light through the test. The airbag light comes on when the ignition is turned on and extiniguishes as self tests are complete - approx 2 secs. A tester will check this without starting the engine.abs led then lol might be a good start on the loom but there must be a reason someone did that in the first place. only one real way to find out though and your suggestion for the first step sounds like the best bet.Only problem you may run into is finding one intact one (the scrapyard i went to most recently has fired all of theirs by applying current to the connectors after stripping them off. Required to by the environment agency they say - though how firing them improves anything pollution wise i don't know, could see safety as no chance of them going off by mistake after th health n safety damn best get pmin people on ebay breaking Quote
smudger Posted March 15, 2013 Author Report Posted March 15, 2013 and as a thought its not the airbag im after or the clock spring its the main wiring harness from airbag control module, the plug that was cut is the one on the car harness to connect to the clock spring plug, Quote
smudger Posted March 15, 2013 Author Report Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Well i decided not to give up on the resistor idea bought a few diff ohms rangion up to 10k and guess what i did :) 4.7 ohm 4R70 4.7R 1W/1 Watt Power Resistor http://s12.postimage.org/4d3tvnuo9/537739_10200396534849915_1915110721_n.jpg so if anyone has that damn resistant to high drivers airbag this is a quick fix to get it through the new mot regulations oh and yeah i know my abs light is on but this is due to a split cv boot getting grease on sensor new boot and clean sensor this weekend Edited March 15, 2013 by smudger Quote
ghr Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 I took the instrument panel off and put black insulating tape on the back of the panel to stop light to the airbag fault display. Put it back together, turned it on and no light - then the computer display said AIRBAG FAULT in bright red LED  Quote
smudger Posted March 18, 2013 Author Report Posted March 18, 2013 ghr my understanding is in 2 days time the new mot law states your airbag light must come on on with ignition lights and go off or no mot. I fooled my car with a resistor to create the same resistance the airbag does only way mot station will know if they take the ignition cowling off :) Quote
BrianH Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 I've used J&R for boots and cv joint in the past (same place your looking at - they sell direct as well) seem cheap but good. prefer their boots as the clips that come with them tended to have more holes punched into them than others to allow fitting (some I've had on other cars didn't have enough holes punched into them, and the last thing you want is to find that when you already have it in pieces). The CV joint I've had off them never got fitted but looks fairly good especially considering the price. Delivery was quick as well. Quote
