Stereo Not Keeping Memory

Every time I set a radio station and turn the radio off and on again it doesn't keep it in the preset.

The brown cable up see in the pic is broke. (Duh) is it this that is stopping the presets?

It's a new stereo and was also doing it on the old one as well

After looking on here, the brown cable seems to be the ground connection, wonder why it has been cut?

on the radio it shoud have a permanent live (12v+) for the memory ,a ground to complete the circuits and also an ignition live for illumination on some radio's the permanent live and ignition live may need to be swapped over as for the earth it should be connected can't understand why it's not on some radio's on the back they have a black fuse like bit that can be taken out and turned around and replaced hope this helps.
