sss Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Hi all I discovered the passenger footwell flooded and hopefully have found the cause (thanks to this site) to be a disconnected water pipe but now have the following electrical issues. High Light Break light does not come on when breaking.High Light Break light when opening boot flashes on and off and you hear the central locking system operating (cycling) when pulling on the boot lid handle. When starting the engine the dashboard illimuinates for approx 7 seconds and the front fog light indicator lights up and stays on.When Breaking the dashboard illiminates and the front fog light indicator iluminates with a brighter intensity.High Break Light comes on when putting into reverse gear. I'm presuming as the cabling adjacent to the disconnected water pipe was soaking as was the well under the passenger seat that this was the cause but since drying these out the issues have remained. Here's hoping some one has come across these issues. Mk 1 2001 (x)1.9tdi Cheers Quote

sss Posted December 30, 2012 Author Report Posted December 30, 2012 Hi Yes appears issue is with wiring on right hand side of boot as have moved wiring around and problem fixed. But on insulating cracked / chipped wiring with tape problem is back so more fiddling needed.Has anyone knowledge of what these wires in these looms are connect to as then I can concentrate on the failing areas. Many Thanks Quote
gregers Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 i think youve found the failings, just follow the detailed info in the faqs on how to correctley carry out repairs to the wiring and hopefully all will be sorted. Quote

This site is worth it's weight in virtual gold!!!!!!! BTW SSS is Seven Seater Sally named by the kids 10 years ago. 160K later this is really only the 1st unexpected problem outside normal wear and tear I've had so here's to the next 10 years. Cheers and thanks Quote

Unfortunately at 10 years, broken wires and flaking insulation in the flex areas (rubber gaitors) becomes normal wear and tear. Also you will find lots of other marginal quality issues start to take their toll. e.g. the state of suspension components Be prepared for lots more stupid faults in the next few years but this site can usually help people stay on top of most of them without breaking the bank.
