Aux Heater Advice

Just wondering if someone can offer me some advice about my aux heater.

 

I've got a 2002 1.9 tdi ghia (pd). During the recent cold weather ive noticed a fair bit if white smoke coming out the bag of the car. Also the car takes about 15 minutes of motorway driving to reach 90 degrees on the temp gauge.

 

Just wondering if this is about normal or if I should be examining the unit for a fault.

Its common that the Glow plug fails in the auxiliary heater so i'd look at this first.
