Guest emjay Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I recently had an engine swap, (VR6 motor - code AAA, from a VW Golf fitted) lots of new bits fitted incl thermostat, since then the temp gauge reads higher than before and the cooling fan cuts in a lot more, any suggestions before I troubleshoot the new thermostat??, otherwise running great! Guest nimrod Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Did you you use the sensors off your old engine or use the ones on the Golf engine? if you used the Golf ones they may not be compatable with the Galaxy clocks, hence the higher readings and the fans operating at a lower temperature as the sensor may have a lower tripping temp? Guest emjay Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 interesting .... Thanx for your help, as far as I know - all sensors were not transferred, so the engine has VW golf sensors whilst in my Gal, but, does the temp gauge and cooling fan use the same sensor or are they seperate?, if they are seperate I must have an undercooled engine, if they are combined the sensor could be the culprit - that's my theory!! but I'm happily corrected. Guest nimrod Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 IIRC there are three temp sensors, two on the thermostat houseing and one on the radiator, the two on the stat houseing are for the temp gauge and the after run pump and the one on the radiator controls the fans Quote
Guest emjay Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 do you think all 3 could be different for the Gal, when compared with the Golf?? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 It may be worth your while checking to see at what temperatures they operate at? on the Golf the rad switch operates at 92-97c stage one and 99-105c stage two(twin fan set up) a Golf stat opens at 85c and is fully open at 105cno idea at what the Galaxy operating temps are Quote
