Guest mstraxs Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Hi all I still have this problem with my rear fog lights and reversing lights not working. The brake lights and number plate lights are fine. I have tried pinning the connections out for leakage but all seems fine and indicates that there is no break in the rear loom to the tailgate. Is there any fuse apart from the main fuses in the drivers panel that I could try and replace. At the end of the road now and really dont want to take it to a french auto electricain.Paul Young this sounds a little similar to your numberplate problem. Is that sorted? Mark :o Quote
Guest mstraxs Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Thanks fred What do you mean by a temp supply? I suppose I should have tried that first. To be honest on the live side of the wires I wasnt getting any voltage reading at all. What should the reading be? Quote
Guest mstraxs Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 HI Fred/ Everyone Well still got the problem with reversing and rear fog lights not working. I am definetly getting power to the rear connector from both (actually around 13 volts according to my multimeter) and once I reconnect the stuff at the rear inspection panel I still cant get them to work. I do get power onto the metal plate that the bulbs sit in. You know the one I mean the actual bulb holder being a metal plate of sorts. Anyway I can get 13 volts here on some bits but lose it. I cant believe that both sides have gone at the same time. I have tried replacing bulbs with new (I have a nice collection of about 30 assorted bulbs now) but still no luck. Pulling my hair out now but I refuse to take it to ford the crooks... remember I paid them nearly Quote
Richmond Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 If the supply is OK and the bulbs are OK, I suppose the only thing left is the earth. Have you tried running a reliable earth to the earth side of the bulb? What did you earth your multimeter to to register the 13V. Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 ;) Just a Thought, when you are Testing the wiring is the Rear door open or closed... have you tested the wires in both positions? sounds daft but the wires maybe snagging themselves with the boot down but not when it's up? You never know.. would be very Interested to know your findings.. good Luck shackers Quote
Tony Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 I have a 98 Galaxy and use it for work and the back door is used more than average, I have had a lot of trouble with the wiring loom going into the tail gate through the rubber cable protector and have had to repair severed cables at this point to get door lock/reversing lights/number plate lights and high level brake light to work. It's worth checking the cables at this point where they pass from car body to tail gate. Quote
Guest mstraxs Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 HI All Thanks for all your replys. Not sure were to go with it now . To answer a couple of questions. The effects are the same with the door open or closed, The earth I used was the relay which is bolted onto the rear tailight ( well car body I should say)which you get acces through the rear inspection panel.earth. Just a thought this rear relay... any idea what it is for. Maybe starting to think that I have a relay gone or something. Mark Quote
