Seatdriver Posted October 26, 2012 Report Posted October 26, 2012 Hi all, My 2005 alhambra (45000 miles) has developed very slight play in the steering column, meaning if I apply upward force to the steering wheel I can feel and hear a slight clunk as it moves. The adjuster on the column is tight and my local dealer has never heard of wear developing like this. If it is a bush that has worn in the top of the column can it be replaced seperately or is it a case of new steering column required? Oddly there is hardly any movement when i push the steering wheel side to side (perhaps better leverage from below). Any thoughts Thanks Quote
alan_131 Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 My old Mk1 did something very much like this. I never got to the bottom of it, but the MOT tester said he thought it was to do with bracketry in my case, not wear, and he was not concerned by it. Quote
sparky Paul Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Mines always done something similar too, a very occasional movement felt throught the steering wheel when putting lock on. I could never find any play in the column, and I reckon it's done it since I got the car nine years ago. It never got any worse, so I left it alone. Quote
