omar Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 My key fob is not working - Ford Galaxy 2001The previous owner had the problem and just learned to live with it I've searched on eBay for a battery or something but can't find any sellersAny idea how I can get fixed? I'm using manually to open the doors and close right now I had a BMW previously where the key went as wellI was using manually for about 9 months - then the key mechanism brokeI managed to get fixed by someone who did a postal serviceThe guy told me that the door locking mechanism isn't designed to be used manually and that simple repeated usage would lead to breaking after a while - exactly what happened I'm just concerned the same might happen with the Ford Galaxy? Any help or pointers would be great Thanks Omar Quote
gregers Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 you can get batteries from the likes of halfords/maplins.are you sure the key has been programmed to the car?if the batteries are removed after about 10mins it will lose memory.reprogramming instructions are in the faqs, follow these CAREFULLY.or there may be a dry solder on the board,or the board may have cracked?. as for the mechanism they are designed to work so any car can suffer failier even if it is a beamer. seatkid Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 If the Ford fob is the same as the VW/Seat Fob (should be) then they have 2 CR2016 coin cells BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN OPENING THE FOB. The PATS (immobiliser) chip - a small plastic block - is located in the blade end housing and is prone to fall out unnoticed. Without this chip, the car will not start and is costly to replace if you lose it. A large proportion of remote fobs "die" of old age - the remote function stops working and even changing batteries/reprogramming doesnt work. If you lubricate the lock barrels in the doors (using wd40 or similar) once a year, that should stop them from corroding up and breaking them when trying too hard to force the key. Quote

seatkid Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) By very careful, I just meant open it on a working surface or table so if the PATS chip drops out, you can put it back in. Too many people seem to think they can open while they are on their gravel drive and when the chip drops out, thats it....gone into the gravel never to be found again. PATS chip PATS in key the tech FAQs are at the top of the tech section http://www.fordgalax...-and-solutions/ - note that if you use Internet Explorer, it doesnt work, so upgrade to Firefox, Chrome or Opera.
