acecard Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 I always use tyre shopper - (part of national tyres but cheaper) - then get them fitted free at local national tyres depothttp://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ Quote
gregers Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 i once got some 2nd hand tyres and found a local indy tyre place to fit,BUT they didnt like doing it.and said they wouldnt do it again.as they said they never supplied the tyres they couldnt guarantee them.so i said why not write it on receipt which i would sign.silly me receipt dont think so.lol Quote
omar Posted October 20, 2012 Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 just checked my tyres for price at tyre-shopperouch! expensivei thought i was getting ripped off when i paid £30 a tyre for 2nd hand ones question: how many years should new tyres last? Quote
acecard Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 I haven't found any cheap tyres for the galaxy that are of any use. Also ensure that those you see for sale are reinforced. Its necessary for insurance and because of the weight of the car.Tyre life varies on many factors - driving technique, quality of tyres, tracking etc. The rear tyres will generally outlast two or three pairs of the front. The best wear on the front I have had was with original Michelins lasting about 25k and the worst some Chinese rubber lasting about 7K.Its probably false economy to buy too cheaply. omar Posted October 21, 2012 Author Report Posted October 21, 2012 My mileage is really lowSay 5000 a yearThe cost of a typical brand new tyre I saw on that website was £135I'd hope that the second hand ones I purchased last me more than 9 monthsI'd rather spend £30 every 9 months than fork out £135 Yes: I know buying second hand maybe just put luck Quote
acecard Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 If your mileage is that low, then no harm in going for the cheap tyre if they're to spec.Just back to the problem of who is going to fit them and what they will charge. I don't think most places would be all that happy in fitting tyres not purchased from them. Quote
