Guest BDM2510 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I have installed an official Ford Galaxy I.C.E. which came from a breakers yard. It came from a Ford Galaxy 2003 with heavy front damage. The cabling seems to be complete except one mystery which the local Ford dealer are unable to assist as their wiring diagram is incomplete and they have claim not to have worked on an ICE before and are puzzled. In the console their are 3 units; power socket/input (working); splitter screen box; & DVD player. It is the DVD lower compartment where the query requires some help. On the rear of the DVD player there are three sockets connections. The lower 2 have wiring connectors which loop back into the splitter box. They seem to be for vision and sound. But the top most which has a pin connector which has no connector attached. Please could anyone advise if I have a cable missing which I think powers up the DVD player or a diagram to assist in the connection or as Ford queried is it not required??? Quote
Dally Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 This top connector is known as cavity C and is not used. Out of interest, how did you carry out the install ( cables down the seat backs etc.. ) I ask because I've just installed a non ford system but similar in functionality etc. Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Dally, Thank you for your response. The system is the official Ford Galaxy version with the screens built into the headrest and cables running inside the seat. A connector cable lies under each seat for connection into the splitter box. The Ford engineer suspected that the DVD player socket was blank. Not being technical does this mean all the power runs from the direct supply to the 12v socket and reverts back to the DVD player. I have power to the socket/media area but the DVD is not activated. The only connector parlt missing that Ford can supply appears to run from the splitter unit to the radio. I will try an take a jpg of the unit as to date the local Ford garage is struggling. Is there a way I can test the DVD player because at present it is the only part not functioning? Quote
Dally Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 BDM2510 According to a manual I have, the power to the dvd comes via the connector at cavity A (the bottom one. There are no additional points for power on the back of the unit. The missing part that you refer to may be the answer because there is a link between the head unit and the multi media system - The m/media kit should only work when the head unit is on and can run for an hour after key removal alongside the Head Unit. BTW, just for my info, did the ford engineer pass the cables down the seat back and if so, do you know if they removed the seat cover to do so? Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Dally, Thank you for your help on this one. I`ll try to post some jpg`s of the unit & wiring on this forum. The interior I have is a factory fit (official Ford) and the wiring goes through the seat and appears to run along with the airbag cables into the base of the unit. I will take jpg`s to help as I can`t remember how they run inside the seat. Although I have fitted the seats I need to remove one to finish the central control console/ media station. Unfortunatley I do not have a media manual & pleased by the power up/down info, BDM2510 Quote
Dally Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 BDM2510 JPG's would be good to see. If you want a copy of the pdf manual that I have on the standard fit dvd unit, pm me and leave your email address. Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Having now received the wiring loom from Ford to the front from the ICE multimedia, it looks like a male/female connector prior to the installing into the radio unit. The only problem is that I have a Blaupunkt Gamma with a 6cd stack attached to the spare socket. Does any one know of a connector which will accomodate both units or do I need to swap for a Ford RDS 6000 or 6006? Does anyone have a jpg of the back sockets for the latter if I need to swap? Quote
