hi, i got a ford galaxy today, V reg, 2.3 petrol, zetec trim? chrome grill, cruise controll climate controll ,arm chairs etc,

anyway, i bought it KNOWING that the rear doors didn't open and indicators/hazards dont work, and no mot/tax, got it cheap with a promise of refund if it costs to much to fix(from my friend) now, is there anything that causes these problems? i notice the passenger footwell is very wet, and i read somthing about a "black box" on another site from a quick google search, but can anybody explain or advise? it starts and runs no problems, i can hear the central locking working on the front doors, and they open fine, also, the rear hatch only opens with a key, handle isn't working,

where should i be looking at 1st for getting these all working? would this "black box" thing be the cause of all these problems

issue A: i have run a power wire from battery to 1 of the wires on the rear doors to unlock the motor, i can now manualy unlock and lock the rear doors, but ALL doors have to be locked and unlocked manualy, central locking is.t working, i can hear the motor in drivers door but it only does the drivers door, would this be caused by the central locking ecu(black box)?????

issue B: indicators still not working, ran power to the rear circuit board and lit up the whole side of that car(indicators) hazard switch not working, indicator switch not working.

issue C: front and rear lights work fine(apart from indicators) BUT when u try to put high beam on it wont hold, it just like your flashing hi beam,

could the stalk be the problem for issues B & C??

First, check the wiring in all the rubber gaitors to all doors and the tailgate. The wiring here breaks and insulation crumbles leaving shorts and breaks. Its all in the Tech FAQs here(31), here(43) and here(44). After you've done that, anything still not working - check the fuses as they may have blown due to a short.

Wet passenger footwell is usually, the rear washer pipe has come apart in the footwell Tech FAQ 5

Your car doesnt have the remote locking unit under the drivers seat floor - that was in models 97 and earlier.

had these exact same issues on an old fiat punto and it turned out to be the stalk. obviously might not be on this occasion but thats exactly where i would start.

as for the rear doors and central locking i wouldremove the door gaitors and check the wiring. i have owned a seat alhambra that i had to rewire most of the door electrics on and i now have a galaxy which is gonna get the same treatment on the tail gate this weekend, from what i understand its a common fault.

the wires in the rear hatch have been repair in the last yr/1k miles, my friend had a quick look at his garage earlier when i was looking the car over(and under) at fueses and he said they are all fine,

i would still take the gaitors off and have a look. not trying to be funny but by the sounds of it you have no idea how well the wires were repaired. if they used block connectors they will fail again, they need to be done right to avoid them breaking/shorting again.

it takes ten minutes to check and it will at the very least rule it out.

think im sure on your model/year its under the passenger seat.

on a 99 model the GEM module (that does the central locking and other things) is buried under the fusebox under the dash. The ECU is also somewhere there. No modules under the seat floors which on earlier models used to get flooded.
