LAST NIGHT I DROVE PAST A SPEED CAMERA SO DOING 30ISH AND HAD A BLOW OUT ON DRIVERS FRONT TYRE CAR TWITCHED TO THE LEFT AND AS I CORRECTED IT I HIT A KERB ON A ISLAND BOLLARD THEN ALL HELL LET LOOSE CURTAIN AND CHAIR AIR BAGS WENT OFF AND I WASNT WEARING MY SEAT BELT,THESE THINGS ARE SCARIER THAN THE BLOW OUT. MY QUESTIONS ARE SHOULD THESE BAGS GO OFFJUST FOR THAT AND WAS THERE A RECALL ON THESE. MINES A 55 PLATE GHIA 130 BHP AND AS IM ONLY TPFT IM GOING TO BE LOOKING FOR THE CHEEPEST FIX THATS IF ITS DOWN TO ME ANY REPLY APPRECIATED Quote

seatkid Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 No airbag recall as far as I know. The airbags should only be triggered when certain conditions are met, speed and deceleration in a certain timeframe. Front air bags when the accelerometer detects a frontal collision and curtain/chair airbags when a side collision is detected. Its possible I suppose to have a quarter on collision triigering both sets, I'm not sure. One thing is certain - fitting new airbags is usually more than the value of your car. Try asking a local scrapyard if they can help you. Quote
