Spins But Sometimes Wont Start

My late 2003 130tdi has 109K , and runs fine. New battery last spring.

However, Sometimes lately, engine spins without firing straight away. Then will start straight away on 2nd turn. Does this sound like relay 109 to anyone?

I'm getting exactly the same symptoms (even the new battery last spring) on my 2005 1.9TDi and was also thinking that it might be relay 109.

 

Working normally it starts instantly, when the fault occurs it will spin for ages with no firing. If I let it spin long enough, or try a second (or rarely third) time if starts normally. I've never had a cut out when the engine is running but the starting is getting more frequent.
