Starting Problems

Hi

 

I have a 2001 MK2 ghia 2.3 that just recently started playing up. When I get in the car and put the key in and turn it nothing happens.

 

I unlock the car by the remote, put the key in, turn it and all the lights go on and then go that extra notch and nothing.

 

Now not sure if i'm being lucky or not but if I tap the key around the barrell area a couple of times then put the key in and try again it starts up ???????

 

The pats chip is in the key fob and not rattling around and no other issues or symptoms,.

 

Any suggestions welcome.

check the voltage to the starter solenoid when you try to start the car - if it goes to 12 volts but the car doesnt turn over then its a starter motor related falut, otherwise its likely to be a fault ignition switch.
