Hi,

I have a 2005 Galaxy 1.9 TDI, 130bhp.

I am having problems with the Drivers door electrics. Basically all of a sudden the electric window will not go up or down, the remote locking will not work ( It locks and then unlocks, with hazards flashing twice), when I try to move the electric door mirrors using the control on the drivers door, nothing happens and the hazards flash twice. When I try to use the buttons on the drivers door to lock and unlock nothing happens, but the hazards flash twice.

Also when I start the car and turn the headlamps on, the hazards flash twice.

Has anyone seen this before?

I have followed instructions on the forum to take the drivers door card off and look at possible wiring problems, but have found nothing. have checked the wire loom for broken or damaged wires and have found nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Pete.

Just a though, but have you checked your key. If your key is sending a signal to unlock the car, the indicators will flash twice (even if car is already unlocked). This will block controls to the windows because if you hold the unlock on your key, the electric windows will all open. The button on your key fob may have worn so it is giving intermittent signals as the key is moved. Try keeping the key well out of range of the vehicle and using a spare key, or take the battery out (don't loose chip inside) and manually unlock the car.

I expect there is a switch in the drivers door lock that also disarms the alarm, but I have never stripped my door down that far, perhaps someone else has and can tel you how to disconnect it?

Any luck?

If you disconnect the wire loom to the drivers door, do you still get the hazards flashing twice when you turn the head lights on?

It's the headlights that is confusing me as there is nothing in the door related to this.

I was wondering about an earthing fault to do with the door.

The battery is definitely ok? Headlights and Electric Windows are high load items. Crap battery can throw up spurious electrical behaviour, but a lot more obvious things happen first (like not being able to star the car!)

Hi, check your wires behind your rubber gaitors in the tail and all doors ;)

I have the same problem and key issue didn't sort it. adding to the symptoms mine you can hear the fuel cap door locking and unlocking and then leaves everything unlocked.

did you resolve your issues

As cyborg says check the wiring in the rubber gaitors to all doors - see Tech FAQ for detailed pictorial guides. Very common fault are the wires break and/or shed their insulation and short. Also the wiring in two rubber gaitors to the tailgate also suffer from the same problem leading to all manner of "gremlins".

Hi there Anthony, sorry for the delay in responding. Unfortunately the key check didn't work, but now I am experiencing the hazards flashing for no real reason, driving along and they just flash twice out of the blue. the battery has been fine, car starting no problem and everything else powering ok, stereo, lights etc. Will try disconnecting the wire loom to the door. thanks for the advice.

I have also experienced the fuel cap locking mechanism locking and unlocked the same as kreasey has mentioned.

Other issues are the following:

Can only lock drivers door with key manually

Can only arm alarm after locking drivers door manually.

when i press the key fob to arm the alarm everything locks then unlocks, and I hear the fuel cap lock, unlock, lock, unlock.

I can put up and down the passenger window from controls on passenger door, but I can only put it up from the drivers door controls.

Controls fro the electric mirrors don't work on the drivers door, when I try them the hazards flash, weird.

cyborg and seatkid, thanks for the advice, will check the wiring to all doors and will let you know the outcome.

Cheers,

peter.

found it!!!!!!!!! disconnected drivers door gaitor all symptoms ceased. Took wiring loom out of drivers door and found 3 broken wires, soldered back together, plenty of insulation tape to protect and strenghten, also moved clip on loom inside the door to give a nats todger's extra slack when opening the door. Back good as new!!

After reading other bits and pieces seems like there were a lot of different electrical symptoms for this, It just depend which wires are broken. 1 of my three was the big brown un (the power) hence nothing worked on mine only manual lock drivers door sometimes!

Thanks

At last I found the problem also. Same as kreasey, disconnected drivers door gaitor, symptoms ceased. followed the FAQ to take wiring loom out and fixed 1 wire, the thick brown one which had completely broken.

All working now as normal. Now just a drivers side rear door lock to sort out.

thanks for all your help - antzagalaxy, cyborg and seatkid.

I've had this of 2 out of 4 doors now....just waiting for the other to go! I always solder an extra length of wire in, about 2 inchs just to give that extra slack....
