I bought a 2000 model Ford Galaxy the 135 bhp model and its a joy to drive .

I would like to keep it for a long time as I bought it to tow a car on a trailer.I have just A framed a Peugeot 106 today and going up hills the car slows down and wont accelerate at all.

When not towing it drives well with good acceleration.

Does anyone know why this should be?The engines done 138,000 miles and has just had a new turbo ?

The cruise control cannot accelerate up hills when towinmg either.

No such animal as a 135bhp model, 2000 year is either 90bhp or 115bhp

AFAIK 130bhp model wasnt launched until 2003

Its probably going into limp mode under load which could be a MAF sensor, Vacuum control, turbo actuator, or other problem.

Sticking VAGCOM / VCDS on to do a diagnostic scan would narrow down the possibilities. Also need to know the engine code to determine exactly what engine you have.

Have a look through the FAQ post, the top one when you look at the technical forum post list.

There was nothing obvious on my documentation to tell me what variant I'd bought (2001 1.9tdi), however going into a car insurance website and requesting a quote brought up the car model with bhp. VAGCOM is a diagnostic program available for VW / Audi cars (will talk to a diesel galaxy - it's a VW underneath) that is very cheap and very good. Basically a DIY'ers testbook. Helpful if you have a laptop though, lugging the desktop out to the car can be a pain.
