Hello everyone. Just bought a 55 plate Galaxy Ghia and the rather large plastic cover that encloses the battery area has been broken. Missing the retaining nuts as well so it's just sitting there flapping around in the engine compartment with the bonet to stop it from moving.. The right hand nut hole has been ripped off but left hand side is intact. The history of the car is 7 owners, other than that it seems to have a clean record. I'm beginning to doubt this now.

Still intending to keep the car. I was thinking about taking a trip to the local ford garage and seeing if I could scrounge a few nuts/bolts to fix it back on.

you could also try asking in seat and vw.

or visit your local scrappy or ask on ebay to see if anyone breaking the cars has one.

the plastic bolts are flimsy things anyhow - if the cover is mainly intact, a couple of strategically drilled holes and and some lengths of wire will do perfectly to hold it in place

I did ask the scrappy but he only had Mk1s Is there anything on a MKI compatible with a MKII like the inside door handles are worn.

Would like to replace the worn parts but will probably be looking at new replacements. Still going ok. The inbuilt car seats are great. Not looking forward to the price of a new cambelt though.

The wire thing did cross my mind so I'll probably do this or get some screws and bolts.

Thanks Guys

More news on the battery cover. went to my local ford dealer after discovering the battery wasn't the original or clamped in so it was lose.

Spoke to an MOT certified bod who said it would probably pass as it wasn't likely to go anywhere in a crash. Didn't instill any confidence but I did manage to find out that the retaining clamp was missing so ordered one for a fiver. MEH... I also found outh the moulded cover costs £32 so didn't order.

Typical - 32 quid for a piece of plastic.

In what way is your battery not original - if its under capacity you might anticipate problems this winter

It's just within the limit, checked with the guy at the Ford garage. the battery looks like an ebay job as I've searched on ebay and similar Bosch type batteries are being sold as compatible with The Galaxy. The battery doesn't take up the whole tray but takes up about 2 thirds of it
