Hello All,

Bear with me as I don't know anything about cars. But I'll fix your computer.

I need a replacement near side driveshaft.

There is a driveshaft from the diff to the bearing. This has been replaced 2 months ago by a Ford garage (seemed to be a 2 part piece).

Then there's another driveshaft from the bearing to the wheel/cv joint.

That's the part I need. Where it connects from that driveshaft to the bearing, it's failed, and there's vibration in the car from 30mph up. i.e, problem is not at the wheel end of that particular driveshaft, it's the other end.

Ford want £430+vat for the part (not inc labour). I was planning to part-ex the car sometime soon, and so I don't want to the spend that much. They'll sell just the joint at the end where it connects to the bearing for £105+vat, but it doesn't contain any bearings, to get the bearings I need the £430 part. Pretty sure from the vibration I'll need the bearings. The £105 part may not fix the problem.

But I need it in a reasonable condition to sell.

I'm looking at ebay as there's a few adverts for Galaxy dismantling.

Does anybody know if the driveshafts are the same across all engine variants, or do I need one from a 1.9i TDi, which limits my choice somewhat.

Thanks

Headless.

There are different driveshafts depending on gearbox and engine power. Do you know if yours is a 115 or 130 BHP? (I don't think the 150's came out till after 53 and am not sure if they still sold the 90's at that time). I have a 130 and got one of these (well two actually but haven't needed to fit the second one yet!). They are the same on the drivers and passsenger side.

It's new and has a two year guarantee. It should do for you as mines a 130. It got rid of a minor vibration I had at around 20mph while accelerating in any gear since I got the car too! I replaced the bottom balljoibt at the same time too.
