elhayes Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 I have a 2 litre 08 plate diesel tdci galaxy. It has done 50k miles. Whilst driving it around France recently, I kept hearing a sound like a police or ambulance siren in the distance. I then realised it was the car making the noise. The noise gets louder or quieter depending on whether I am accelerating or not. I took the car to our local garage, who simply said they did not know what the noise was . the car seems to be running fine generally. can anyone please help with a diagnosis? thank you. Quote

gregers Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 turbo?look to see if any pipes have come adrift. Quote
Bredfieldtim Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 It might just be the turbo. I had a Saab 9-5 diesel and the (very quiet) while from the turbo sounded just like a distant siren. I've not noticed any turbo noise from the Galaxy. Quote
isolator42 Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Our mk3 Galaxy (56 plate 2.0 TDCi) does this too. Is it indicative of imminent turbo issues? Quote
gregers Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 could be?but from what ive read it could take a very long time before it goes,my smax does this.might also be a hole in 1 of the pipes?. Quote
isolator42 Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Our mk3 Galaxy made it to Brussells & back this weekend, full load & sustained 130kmh for durations we can only dream of in the UK (unless you are nocturnal). No smoke, no problems whatsoever.I'll keep an ear out on that turbo whistle, but for now I feel that there's no real problem. Quote
isolator42 Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) ...same again last weekend - London > Pembroke Dock (SW Wales) > London (total approx 600 miles), fully loaded up... not a problem. Will need new tyres & I'll get the tracking done too... Edited May 29, 2014 by isolator42 Quote
