Wimb Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Recently purchased a 54 plate 2.3 galaxy , MIL light has just come on i plugged in my cheapo obd2 scanner which showed 1 dtc and gave me N/A as the result. I reset it and it vanished for 100 or so miles and has now returned . im guessing they changed the protocol from the mk1 to the mk2 ? Does anyone know of a handheld reader that works on the mk2 petrols ? also a link if possible please. Quote
steve alan Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 dont know if this permited but there is a little prog ,(google for "VWTool") you will need a laptop and a cheap usb blue lead offa flea bay ,prog lets you clear ,check etc sim type to vag com program (not as good but free & works) Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Not sure about VWTool but VAG-COM won't work on the 2.0 or 2.3 Ford Petrol engines, but it will work for a lot of the other bits like aircon, booster heater ABS etc Quote
Wimb Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 Both these programs arent any good to me , i need it to be able to read ford engine codes Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Your mk.II should be OBDII compliant and use the same protocols. Not sure about handheld readers, but if you have a laptop, a generic ELM327-based OBDII/EOBD interface off that well known auction site will read codes and live data from the Ford engines. I find ScanTool v1.13 software works well. Something like this should do the job, there are cheaper ones if you can wait for delivery from HK or China. Edited September 10, 2012 by sparky Paul Quote
Louise30 Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 Will this work on a 2.3 petrol Galaxy 2000(w) connection point is under the ashtray?Louise Quote
sparky Paul Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 Yes, the generic ELM327 cables will work with the 2.3 petrol models, but will only read only the engine faults and live data. For all other body systems, e.g. airbag, abs, auto gearbox, etc., you need a VAG-COM type cable and software. Unfortunately, us 2.0 and 2.3 petrol owners need both cables to cover everything. Quote
