Hi looking for some direction with a rear wiper fault.motor not running at all,

I have checked the usual,

1. Fuse No 24 (assuming this is correct as the operating manual and Haynes manual is conflicting)

2. wires in rear gator these all look good, no chaffing Etc.

I have removed the tail gate card thanks to the FAQ and noticed the pipe to the washer was nearly off this had started to leak over the motor connector, dried this out and applied some good old WD40.

still no luck yet.

for info, every thing else works fine, front wipers and washer no issue and all lights work on the car.

Re the rear motor assembly, the cable to this has 4 wires i put a meter on the motor plug, I used the brown as the earth and tested across other three wires, no voltage was found.

I'm assuming one of these cables should have 12v on it to power the motor, intermittent option and washer is available on the column switch.

If I knew which of the 4 wires need the 12v applied I could rule out the motor.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

Bill

My Haynes manual only shows three wires to the motor - usual perfect reflection of the world as seen by Haynes....

No help there, but I did wonder if your earth connection was good?

Hi Alan and Seat Kid, thanks for the responses, Earth was good done a bit more testing with a wire direct to the battery negative, my Haynes manual suggest 4 wires, re re the diagram, Seat kid provided looks like there is a switch within the motor assembly ?

Any ideas where the CJB is located ? also probably no a fuse issue as this feeds both front and rear wiper motors and the washer motor (which all work)

Thanks again? Bill

Switch in wiper motor is the self parking switch. CJB is the fusebox under the drivers side dash. Check F20 Edited by seatkid

Sorry just looked at Seatkids drawing again, looks like I should have 12 volts provided via fuse 20 onto pin 4 of the motor plug, black and yellow wire can some one confirm I'm not going mad?

Thanks

Yes 12v on black/yellow from F20. Have you checked the corresponding black/yellow in both tailgate rubbers?

I note F20 is labelled as 10A (15A) - IIRC the fuse was uprated to 15A as the 10A tended to blow.

I'm not a doctor, but my general diagnosis is everyone is mad except me.

Hi Seatkid, Thanks and you are right just checked fuse 20 and guess what,, no fuse in position 20,

the other day whilst returning home from a family trip my front wipers would not switch off, i pulled over and looked at the fuse box, decal and pulled a fuse , in my haste, must have placed it back in the wrong position, i have moved a 15 amp from position 26 to test and all working fine now.

BTW your diagnosis is correct, another beer on Seatkids tab, keep up the good work

Cheers Bill

My first post here. I've got a 2004 Alhambra and the rear wiper has stopped working - holding the lever in does activate the washer jet. It is currently stuck facing up and not parked. I have tested and found 12v on the black/yellow wire (only). There is continuity on the other 3 wires when tested from the loom inside the car to the plug so don't think the wires are broken. It had been going quite slowly for a while and now nothing. I put 12v on the other wires but all I got was one of them activated the washer and the other one sparked. Should there be power to another wire (I have looked at the diagram earlier in this post but cannot read any of the writing). Also I've just had a new (heated) screen fitted - could this have anything to do with it? Is there only one fuse? Thanks

Hi holtie and welcome to the Forum.

It is still likely to be the wiring in the tailgate gaitor.  The insulation may have come off the wires, rather than just a break in the wire.  This will still pass a continuity test but not work.

If you have a permanent 12V on the Black and Yellow with the ignition on then try connecting a ground wire from a ground on the chassis directly to the Brown wire on the motor in the hatch.  I believe this should cause the wiper to return to the park position as it looks like the Black/Yellow (which shows as conncting to a Black/White wire on the motor on my diagram) is the feed for the parking circuit.  If this works it would indicate a failure in the Brown (ground) wire to the motor.

If you disconnect motor and connect 12V between brown and Black/Yellow (or whichever it wire it connects to on the motor) it should park.  This assumes the wiper arm has not been off and moved.  If not you may have a motor problem.

I assume you have checked the fuses as detailed above.

Thanks for your help. Tried earthing but no joy so stripped  the motor/mechanism and found the shaft was seized. Managed to get it out and cleaned and greased - had to fill some of the housing with mastic as it cracked. It is now working again but not sure for how long - grease will slowly get washed out and it will seize up again! Will have to watch out for it slowing down again. The hardest bit was re-fastening the pipe back on for the washer as the pipe had snapped.

I would have thought it would have blown a fuse but it hadn't!!
