victor meldrew Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 My galaxy passed another mot last week so I thought I'd splash out on a new clutch pulley on the alternator.I disconnected the battery and removed the alt ok and changed the pulley.Put it all back together but it now won't turn over.Dash lights up ok but when I turn the key nothing happens, lights don't dim and starter don't turnI've checked everything is connected ok regarding the bits I took offAny ideas?Something I've done? victor meldrew Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 Just checked the led on the door and it flashes constantly when I try to start the carDoes this point to relay 30? Could disconnecting the battery cause this to fail? Getting worried now as I'm dragging a caravan around Devon over the next couple of weeks ( I hope) Quote
victor meldrew Posted August 11, 2012 Author Report Posted August 11, 2012 Checked the only ignition key I have and it has no chip in the key, I haven't had the key apart before by the way.I don't know if it's ever had a chip in it since I've owned it.Can the pats be bypassed as in older diesel transits?I've had a car in the past that had the original key cable tied to the ignition barrel after a lock change. Can anyone confirm that if there is a pats fault the car will not turn over and the light on the door lights for three secs then flashes wildly Quote
alan_131 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) My late 99 built mk1 tdi will not crank if the chip is missing. If an unregistered chip is present, it cranks, starts and dies at once. (Immob reports weak signal or something to that effect). If you wait a minute, the door led flashes a number of times to diagnose the fault. (iirc, and quite probably not, 13 in one of these cases). I understand bypassing the immob is not easy (pointless if it was) though some ecu's can be reprogrammed to delete it. Don't know if galaxy is one.... Edited August 11, 2012 by alan_131 Quote
victor meldrew Posted August 11, 2012 Author Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) All sorted, after the wife remembered the key coming apart whilst locking it yesterday I found the chip on the drive Edited August 11, 2012 by victor meldrew Quote
