PhillipB Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 Hi,My wife's 1996 Galaxy has taken to stalling as she changes down at roundabouts/junctions. It will always restart immediately, but this is obviously not desirable behaviour. It never cuts out at high engine revs, or in anything other than second gear while slowing down. It's also not consistent - it can go quite a while before it does so, but can then happen ten times in ten miles. She's had it in the garage but they couldn't find a problem.Any ideas will be gratefully received. Thanks Quote
dlt1617 Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 You haven't mentioned which particular Galaxy you have or if the local garage did a fault test on the vehicle, if the fault memory was checked I would suspect if the vehicle is petrol that you could have a faulty idle control valve, if the vehicle is diesel and the fault memory has not been checked I would have it checked first. Best wishes Dave Quote
PhillipB Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 It's petrol, and I'm not sure what the garage did. Thanks for the tip about the idle control valve - maybe that's it.CheersPhillip Quote
Saif Rehman Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) I'll second that for a faulty idle control valve. I've experienced the same symptoms (in a different make of car) you have described and it was the valve. EDIT: Pretty cheap from here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIR-BYPASS-IDLE-SPEED-CONTROL-VALVE-FORD-GALAXY-2000-/190349959617?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c51bde1c1 Edited August 4, 2012 by Saif Rehman Quote
PhillipB Posted August 5, 2012 Author Report Posted August 5, 2012 Thanks chaps - I'll ask the garage to check for that. Quote
