Hi peeps..

Ok, I am in the middle of breaking down an engine from a '98 sharan 110tdi... Now, on inspecting the flywheel, it seems to be a solid one, not a duel mass one.....

Now, I also have an alhambra.. same spec.... The flywheel of this is also solid.....

I am just wondering, is this a bad thing?? I mean, I see plenty of solid flywheel conversion kits on the web, and they say that it boosts power, but if I just have a solid one on the car, and I put on a duel mass one..(assuming it will work) will this make any difference??

thanks in advance

Why do you want to fit a dual mass when yours originally came with a solid one piece one?

The performance gain normally comes from fitting a lightened single mass that weighs less than the dual mass it replaces.

Less rotational inertia means that the engine has less weight to spin up and subsequently will rev quicker (and drop revs quicker)

Performance is normally gained mainly in first then second gear. With a tiny gain in third.

You see, I am a novice at the duel mass flywheel idea... All the cars I have worked at all usually have is solid ones.. But people that have Shalambraxys have been telling me that the duel mass flywheel goes on them.... I thought a duel mass had more performance.. But thanks for telling me.... I am at ease now... :40:

As far as i know, all 6 speed boxes use a dual mass flywheel.

The 5 speeds where a mix of some single and some dual.

If yours was a dual, you could convert to single mass quite easily by buying a VR6 clutch kit, and a mk2 golf G60 or Mk3 golf 16v ABF flywheel.

These are a bolt on swap for a 5 speed tdi.
